Help the Rainforest to Grow!
Here's how you can help us grow more forest.
Calling all teachers and students!
Here's a great new idea for your next fundraising
event...
Get your class to help reforest a vital area
of the Atlantic Rainforest in Brazil!
Imagine you have just finished a lesson on the
environment and are looking for that perfect follow-up activity
to complement what your class has just learned. Take a look at
our resources to bring the Atlantic Rainforest
into your classroom.
Benefits:
- Instead of just reading about the rainforest, your class can
play an active role in helping to save it!
- Once reforested, your plot of land will provide shelter for
animals and serve as a vital link to other areas of forest.
You will also help to preserve the rich biodiversity of the
rainforest.
- You will be part of an international effort, sharing a common
goal with people from all over the world to create a lush and
vibrant rainforest.
How it works:
Two things you can do. One, buy a plot of land in our Forest Futures Scheme. By raising $60, you will save an area of land
just under the size of an Olympic swimming pool! With 24 hectares
in total, there are plenty of plots to adopt - so the more money
you raise, the larger the area your class can reforest.
For example: 30 students raising $10
each can adopt 5 plots - that's already a lot of land! So imagine
how much rainforest a class of 40 can save!
Two: you can help us to plant more trees to help sequester carbon that is released into the atmosphere through various forms of air pollution. You can actually calculate yourself the amount of carbon your activities release into the atmosphere by using the formulae on this website: www.earthday.net. For every $10 you raise for us, we will give a tree seedling from our nursery to a local school and help the pupils there plant it and look after it. In 2007, our first year working like this with schools, we helped schools plant more than 500 trees - in 2008, our target is 2,000.
Fundraising Ideas:
- Non-uniform day (students pay to wear their own clothes)
- Bake-and-sell (rainforest theme)
- Sponsored walk or litter-pick
- Recycling drive
- Seedling sale
- Rainforest-themed music/dance/drama
