Volunteer Program

Information on our program for volunteers

Volunteers from all around the world are accepted on to our program, volunteering here where the farm meets the forest. Our volunteers arrive here with a wide range of skills and interests, and during their time here often learn many more.

Our program for volunteers and researchers runs year round, and the work that volunteers do is absolutely vital to our project - so much of what has been achieved owes its success to the ideas, ingenuity and hard work of volunteers and researchers.

Volunteering at Iracambi

There are a wide range of volunteer roles which are available here. The work that volunteers do feeds into our four defined research priority areas:

  • Land use management;
  • Forest restoration;
  • Income generating alternatives;
  • Community understanding and engagement;

as well as work that improves the capacity of the Center. You would like to read about the research priorities in more detail. The work that we do covers a wide range of areas, so we can always find room for volunteers with skills and expertise, as well as plenty of dedication and enthusiasm. There is more information on some of the specific volunteer roles that we offer here, or download our volunteer information pack. If you would like to discuss possible volunteer roles with us then simply e-mail us at volunteers@iracambi.com.

Life at Iracambi

Volunteering at Iracambi provides you with the opportunity to get to know a beautiful but little visited part of Brazil. To live in the way that the local people do, whilst volunteering on a project that seeks to improve their quality of life and that of the forest. You will be living in an international community of volunteers and researchers that are all working to address the issues of the area.

You can take a tour of the area to get a feel for the place. There is also more information on living at Iracambi available. Find out what some of the hundreds of volunteers and researchers who have already made the journey here to take part in voluntary work or research on our projects had to say about their time here.

    Preparing for your stay

    If you have already decided to give your time to volunteer here, and are getting ready for your time here, we have prepared some information which will help you decide what things we suggest you bring with you, medical details, and an itinerary to get yourself here. We have made some maps which show you just where here is too.

    If you would like to find out more about the area then we have a list of further reading for you to look at here, as well as a number of links to other websites which provide background information on the area and rainforests in general. There is also much more information on our organisation.

    If you would like to find out more about other aspects of our work you can either return directly to the home page, or you can get more information on our researcher program. You can also get involved in a number of other ways, whether you are an adult or a child.
