Amigos de Iracambi

Our Aims

Itajuru waterfalls by CrisAmigos de Iracambi is a Brazilian registered non-profit association that works to promote the conservation of the Atlantic Rainforest. Our vision is to see thriving communities living sustainably in a thriving landscape, and our mission is to work with the community to make the conservation of the rainforest more attractive than its destruction.

Our specific objectives are:

  • to promote the conservation of the Atlantic Rainforest of Brazil, particularly in the region of Rosário da Limeira, Minas Gerais;
  • to support research at the Iracambi Research Center into finding better ways of sustainably managing forest lands, while generating forest-based income that will raise local living standards and encourage landowners to conserve their land;
  • to support activities of the Iracambi Research Center that raise awareness of the forest conservation issues among local people (especially young people);
  • to work with local farmers to implement better ways of caring for the land, and to share our research findings with the scientific community and the general public.
