How to help
Together we can make it happen!
There are many ways to help Iracambi's vital work to save forests and change lives, and lots of generous people have already helped us: we'll welcome you to their ranks.. If you have the opportunity to visit us, as a volunteer, ecotourist, reseacher or intern, we'll be able to gain from your ideas and insights, your hard work and ingenuity and your skills and discoveries, as well as the small donation included in the cost of your visit.
We are looking for core funding and sponsors for our programs and projects:
developing sustainable communities, managing natural resources, and researching ecosystems.
Individual donations are a huge help as together they add up to a significant amount. If you're up for a challenge, we have a host of fundraising ideas for you in our fundraising pack.
Schools, groups, individuals and companies can invest in Forest Futures, which enables us to link forest fragments through corridors, enabling the forest to regenerate and wildlife to recolonize these areas.
If you can spare some time, such as an hour a week or more, how about joining our Global Iracambista Volunteer Corps and working from the comfort of your own home? We can gladly use your time to help us with networking, raising awareness, fundraising, advice, and technical or professional assistance.

Forest Futures
Help us regenerate the rainforest
Iracambi's mandate is saving forests, changing lives. We've started by conserving sections of Brazil's Atlantic Rainforest, one of the world's richest areas of biodiversity, teeming with rare animals and plants many of which are found nowhere else on earth. With fragile soils and steep slopes, the land is quickly eroded and every year farmers need to clear more forest to make their agriculture viable.
Iracambi is researching, testing and campaigning for ways to make the forest conservation provide an income for landowners, but the reality is that it is complicated and will take years to implement on a large scale. In the meantime, we are also buying unused forest land, and land adjoining forest fragments, to reforest and protect. These are our Forest Futures.

Sponsor our GIS program
And create a tool that changes lives
Since its early moments when Iracambi maps were made by hand, through its evolution into the only community GIS in the region, the program has been run and managed entirely by our wonderful corps of volunteers, students, and professionals, with the backing of the Iracambi GIS committee. Our dream now is to finish putting it on line so that the people of the Serra do Brigadeiro can learn how to use it, add to it, and get to the point where they can't imagine living without it! To get there we need two things: money and a motorbike. Money for a community coordinator to manage the GIS, input the data, and most importantly show people how to use it. Money to train the coordinator, help pay our internet bill ($500 a month) maintain and upgrade the GIS computer, put on community workshops to publicize this amazing opportunity, and last but not least, to buy a motorbike! The GIS project has no dedicated transport at present, and GIS coordinators and volunteers hitch rides on passing cars (there aren't many of them in the rainforest) motorbikes and horses. They also do a lot of walking. It keeps them fit, but we can' help thinking it woud be more efficient if they had a reliable form of transport. Can you help? Please hit our donate button! |
