Research at Iracambi

Iracambi caters for both individuals or groups who wish to participate in one of our ongoing research programs, or undertake their own research projects. 

Our research priorities relate directly to our to our three program areas, and we offer research opportunities in each of them:

Developing sustainable communities:

Ecotourism, researching potential of medicinal plants as an income source, studying how environmental services provided by local communities can be paid for.

Managing natural resources:

Mapping Environmental Protection Areas for our GIS, monitoring forest growth, measuring water flows to help develop better soil and water conservation pratices,

Researching ecosystems;

Monitoring forest growth in permanent sample plots, monitoring ecosystem health using aquatic fauna and bird populations as biological indicators, inventories of fauna and flora.

Iracambi is the only Research Center in Brazil affiliated to the Organization of Biological Field Stations.

We provide full board and lodging, 24 hour internet, use of our GIS, access to the living laboratory of the Atlantic Forest and the chance to be part of a vibrant community working together to save forests and change lives.
